My Prayer
Submitted by Laurie Niles: Written and performed by Laurie Niles. Ben Salisbury, piano.
Lyrics:
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray that God watch over me.
Help me be strong;
help me be good;
help me treat others the way I should.
I thank You for the things I have,
the bread on my table,
my Mom and Dad.
Watch over me;
help me to see,
so many good things can start with me.

Laurie, it's lovely. I'm going to learn it and sing it to my boys. Thank you!

Beaautiful, very moving. Yes, simple is best, closest to the heart.

At the moment, only the melody is written out, and you can find that here. It's actually a handwritten version that I illustrated with a picture of my younger-at-the-time son for his wall. :) Ben said that he'd write out the piano part, so I'll let you guys know if that happens.

Oh golly! You guys are sweet. Ben made up the piano part on the spot, and I just love it. What a treat, after singing it a cappella for 10 years.

Your story and playing moved me to tears. It is about as perfect as anything gets; a beautiful, simple melody and words, yet so profound! Thank you.

I think it's just beautiful. Thank you for sharing it.
