Great Shop! When I was searching for an instrument and bow, I told them my price range and they worked their best to find me something that fit my needs AND was within my range, they never tried to sell me something I couldn't afford. Everything that I have tried from CGV has been of the highest quality and fairly priced. All of the instruments were very well set up as well. Highly recommended. Claire Givens Violins is a shop of the highest reputation. The concertmasters for both the Minnesota Orchestra and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra (world-class orchestras) take their violins to Givens Violins for maintenance (including a 1742 Guarnerius del Gesu and a 1700 Matteo Goffriller) because Givens Violins is among the very best. Posted via 207.69.137.39 on November 2, 2007 at 8:05 PM (MST) The luthiers at Givens violins are at the top of their craft. Their services are slightly expensive but absolutely of the highest caliber. My daughter takes her master-made violin there for maintanence where she knows the work is as good as it gets. Claire Givens and Andrew Dipper do appraisals for Antiques Road Show on PBS. They are violin historians and expert appraisers. Dipper is also a world-class restorer of historic instruments, with a special scholarly expertise in the period of 1570-1815. I read in a newsletter that they studied historical instruents in Washington D.C., and Givens violins recently hosted a show of exquisite Cremonese collectibles. They have excellent instrument for sale that you can trust. Their reputation is examplary. When in the Twin Cities, also check out the excellent House of Note in the western suburb of St. Louis Park. Yet Givens Violins is in a league of its own.

Large, well-staffed shop. A good range of instruments is available (listed on their web site), with an appropriate room for trying them. Professional and knowledgable. Also has a major restoration shop (Dipper Restorations). I've dealt with them for years, all positive experiences. Bow rehairs consistently excellent. Sponsors the traveling "Cremona Exhibit" each fall, worth going to so you can try a wide range of instruments, old and modern. Posted via 207.118.145.102 on April 16, 2006 at 9:15 AM (MST)
