I'd like to add some fresh blood to my repertoire, and I was wondering if anyone knew any folk-like songs with the slow moving qualities similar to Ashokan Farewell? Or just any "pretty" non-classical tunes?
I'm fond of Taylor Davis, Frechette and Thomsen, and Jenny O'Conner, here are some links.
I really like the "marino casino" and "the marino walz". I think this is in the line of what you are looking.
"Lover's Waltz" by Jay Ungar and Molly Mason is quite nice. We danced to it at our wedding.
Look for tunes by Celso Machado. Also anything entitled "Modinha" which means "nice tune" in Portuguese, although most modinhas I have played have been ballads.
Star of the County Down.
Another vote for Star Of The County Down! Also I can add Bert Mackenzie's 70th Birthday Waltz and Appalachia Waltz.
from the scottish fiddle rep.: Hector the hero, and Wounded Hussar. jq
