Celtic fiddle ensemble arrangements

Edited: July 26, 2017, 5:52 AM · I am an experienced arranger, and have recently begun a project to write and distribute (free of charge) a set of arrangements of fiddle music for ensembles.

Now, my ensemble charts here are for two fiddle lines, a cello line, and I provide the chords for comping instruments (or re-orchestration, if someone has the need).

You are free to download and use the arrangements, just don't say you wrote them.

For a month, the pdf of Weaver MacFarlane's Choon Book will be available here:

https://ufile.io/704kw

(There is only one file to download at that link: weaver-v-0.2.pdf).

I will update the book with further arrangements, and release substantially more music every few months. But, already there are about twenty concert standard arrangements in the pdf.

Please note, all fiddlers will need to think about their bowing, if they play these charts, especially when there are several fiddlers on each line (eg, in a Celtic fiddle club ensemble). Without characteristic bowing that pleases the players, the music will lose some of its fiddle qualitites.

Audio files of many of these arrangements can be heard on Soundcloud. Search for Weaver MacFarlane.

Here is a link to one arrangement, The Raivlin Reel, to show you the front door: https://soundcloud.com/user-155461785/the-raivlin-reel

I will organise a permanent home for these arrangements shortly.

My efforts here are simply to provide another resource to fiddlers (and cellists who play in fiddle clubs).

If anyone has difficulties downloading the pdf, please let me know: graeme@cracklingsmarts.com.

Good luck, and let me know if there is a particular choon you would like set for two fiddle lines, cello, and comp.

Cheers.

This is a secure site, hosted by MelbourneIT.

Audio files of 29 complete arrangements can be heard on Soundcloud, just search for Weaver MacFarlane.

Cheers.

August 10, 2017, 4:22 PM · I downloaded it last week, looks like a lotta fun! Unfortunately I have no printer working right now.... THANK YOU Graeme Webster!
August 24, 2017, 4:01 AM · I think I can consider that Weaver MacFarlane's Choon Book has had a successful launch.

Over 300 downloads have been recorded at cracklingsmarts.com, and a further 53 have been downloaded from the file server at https://ufile.io/704kw

Pass the collection of arrangements around, in your fiddle club. You might find something of interest to play.

Now, I am surprised how some Soundcloud audio tracks of the arrangements have hardly been visited.

Teviot Brig, for example, is a lively, challenging traditional choon. Yet only four people have heard it:

I have put the next version of the collection of arrangements on the file server, and it includes Teviot Brig.

That aside, thanks for the support.
