Credible Luthiers in Portland, OR

May 22, 2018, 9:40 PM · Hi, everyone!

So I'm finally getting around to upgrading my instrument from an incredibly low-quality student instrument to something decent for a fairly advanced player (currently learning the Saint-Saƫns Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, and my current violin really isn't cutting it). My family and I are taking a trip to Portland soon (due to an utter lack of decent craftsmen in my state) in order to get me a new instrument.

I was wondering if any of you had suggestions for reputable luthiers in the Portland or Portland-adjacent areas that have a varied selection of instruments suitable, and I'd rather not just go to the first luthier recommended on Google.

May 23, 2018, 12:32 PM · David Kerr has a wonderful selection. I ended up buying mine from Schuback, I responded better to his instruments. There are a couple others that I'm sure you've googled, but those are the two you want, especially for the caliber of instrument you will need.
