Ghys/Servais Variations on God Save the KingRepertoire: Looking for the sheet music of this Violin/Cello Duet...
From Peter François
I am afraid that I don't know a recent edition; I only have the givens (found in Pazdirek) about a reprint by Schlesinger’sche Buch- und Musikhandlung (Robert Lienau), Berlin as “Heil dir im Siegerkranz” (published before 1918 (ca. 1870-1900?)). Posted on February 17, 2005 at 08:05 PM I am studying the live and work of the cellist-composer Adrien François Servais (1807-1866), who lived in my town, and travelled all around Europe. In 1835 he visited London, together with the violinist Joseph Ghys, born in Ghent in 1801, one of the greatest Belgian virtuosos of his time. At that time they probably composed the Variations brillantes et concertantes sur “God Save the King”. There already exist three CDs with a recording of this marvellous duo. I hope that someone can help us to find a (re)print. Peter François From Alma Obregon

Could you give some more information about that CD? Posted on December 26, 2005 at 11:00 AM I only know about the recording by Gidon Kremer & Martha Sudruba and by Renaud & Gauthier Capuçon (for more information please check the 'Oeuvre' page on www.servais-vzw.org). I can strongly recommend the reissue of the Servais/Ghys duo by Billaudot, published last month; the Capuçon brothers have done a good job. |
