What do you make of this violinist? I haven't heard much of him, but as part of a classical music collection I got when I was quite young I received a copy of him playing Williams' Lark Ascending and it's really quite good.

For the Borodit Quartet, wouldn't she need to be named Iboroda Brown?

I am an Ian Brown!! On one occasion, I page turned for the pianist Ian Brown when the Nash Ensemble visited Nottingham in the mid-nineties. Violinist Marcia Crayford was amused by this and even mentioned it to the audience! Ian Brown (the pianist) told me about the time when the Nash Ensemble gave a concert in Sussex and the man turning the pages on that occasion for him was the Rev. Page-Turner! He said that no one ever believes him at first when he recounts that anecdote. Now he has another coincidence to add to it!
I once saw Iona Brown give a concert at the Nottingham Theatre Royal. I spoke to her afterwards to tell her how much I had enjoyed her performance, and she signed some lovely remarks on my programme.
Her very recent death is a sad loss to the world of music.

Iona Brown was born in Salisbury, England, in 1941, and died last Sunday, at the age of 63. She was a victim of cancer.
She joined St. Martin in the Fields 1964, when she was 23.

I should have mentioned in my last message that Ian Brown (pianist with the Nash Ensemble) is, of course, Iona Brown's younger brother.
The musical talents of this Brown family know no bounds - Iona's other brother, Timothy, is the principle horn with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and her sister, Sally, is a violist with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
