Who Wrote the Carmen Fantasie?

Repertoire: Was it Franz Waxman or Pablo de Sarasate? Or did they both write different versions?

They did indeed both write a Carmen fantasy, and I believe there are others as well (Horowitz did one for the piano).

There is also one by Hubay for violin, one by Borne for flute, Busoni for piano, and other less known...

The Horowitz one for piano is really amazing if anyone ever gets the chance to see it done live!

Then there's the Marcus Barcham-Stevens Carmen Fantasy for Three Violins which he wrote for Andrew, Florin and myself.

I've listened to Shaham play a combination of Sarasate, Franz Waxman and Jeno Hubay.By the way I have no idea who the last one is - hope any of you can help me with that.Have fun! :)

Are you talking about the Barcham-Stevens? If so, the only recording I know of is the one the three of us made of that piece in concert (on the "Three Violinists in Concert" CD). If you're interested, it's available on Amazon, and I think violinist.com has a link to the CD on its CD reviews area.

I wonder if they have the Waxman at the library here. I sure hope they do cuz i'd go crazy!!! I've never played either of the Carmen fantasies, I did lots of other stuff by sarasate though,Waxman should be interesting.
