Raspy, airy sound when fingering

September 3, 2016 at 11:05 AM · When I am playing in first position (specifically on the D and G strings) my fingerings sound raspy and somewhat harmonic, the open strings are absolutely fine. I know if you don't press the string hard enough, then you will get a harmonic sound, but I am pressing hard enough to hurt my fingertips and this is still happening. My open strings don't sound that way.

September 3, 2016 at 12:50 PM · Sometimes the left and right hands communicate with one another too much. So, if you are pressing hard with the fingers of your left hand (and do try pushing down less), your bow hand might be "responding" to that by pushing down harder too. It can be a subconscious response.
