abalone on frog--thickness?

Instruments: How thick is the abalone insert on the top of the frog?

I just learned that abalone shell can be bought in sheets, just like wood veneer. It made me wonder how thick the abalone insert on the top of the bow frog really is. Any bow makers out there who can say?

All the bow makers must be at Oberlin. The pieces must start out at about 1mm - plus change, and get worked down a little from there. There is about a .7mm veneer of ebony glued to the back side of the shell.
If I'm wrong this will at least get some action on your question. :)
I'm sure it varies a bit.
