Decent Viola for Beginner

Instruments: Best way to get a decent Viola Project. Don't mind getting hands dirty.

I wanted to get started learning Viola but not spend a lot of cash as I don't know how far I will go with it. I noticed that International Violins has Violas in the white. Euro for $640 Chinese made for $240. Also I noticed that Cecilio makes the CVN600 which may be OK if you replace the soundpost and bridge and cleaup the workmanship. Which is OK because I'd have to do that on the white instruments anyway. It'll be a fun project! Any body have any ideas which is the best way to go. I'd like to end up with a decent student college level instrument.
Thanks
Mike

I'm renting a 14" Hoffman Concert. Not sure what work was done with it at the shop I rent it from, but I believe it was negligible. For the price ($369) and size, it's fantastic for use as a violinist-dabbling-in-viola-part-time instrument.

Nice I just checked out the Hoffmans. Everybody seems to really like them from Shar Music. I was thinking in order to get a decent one under $1000 I would be to make or finish one off myself.
