Help! Pirastro oliv strings!Instruments: I need help! I'm a student that just bought some piratro oliv string but the D and G came in knots instead of balls can knots be used on a violin with fine tuners? From Jacob Mitchell
From Momoko Takahashi
Technically, no, but this fellow managed to use a gut E with fine-tuner. Check it out.

I would not recommend gut strings and fine tuners, because fine tuners can be very unprecice, because the string is stuck on the bridge and reacts not directly to the tuning. Gut strings are also difficult to menage when it comes to tuning. Posted on May 3, 2012 at 07:17 AM Generally there should be no problem with gut with knots and fine tuners as long as the fine tuners are build in a way, that the knot fits in there. I would take off your adjusters and thread the strings through the tailpiece. They may work with adjusters but the extra weight of the fine tuners will muffle your tone.Posted on May 3, 2012 at 10:15 AM Cheers Carlo From Amber Rogers
Agree, take off the fine tuners and thread them through the tailpiece. Which 'E' are you using?

You failed to tell us what type of fine tuners. If they are built-ins, you will have to change the tailpiece. If add-ons, removing them will probably work, unless the tailpiece was modified to make the tuners fit right.
