Today's 81th.birthday of Igor Oistrakh, an underrated and IMO unjustly considered violinist. All his recordings I know are between very good and excelent. A complete sure technique, a sumptous and warm sound and a very intelligent interpreter. His Wieniawsky second, Mendelssohn, Rakov first, complete LvB sonatas, Khatchaturian and many others are wonderfull. And as a duo, I don't know any better that him with papa. Congratulations Igor!

Happy Birthday, Mr. Oistrakh. Your recording of the Ysaye Sonata 3 (Ballade) is still my all-time-favorite.
Cheers,
Sandy

When I saw "Igor" in the title I thought first of Igor Politkovsky, who was a student of David Oistrakh!

Poor Politkovsky died very young in 1984, a really disgrace because he was extraordinary. He had IMO one of the most beautiful sounds I ever heard on a violin. He couldn't leave Russia, and there are very few recordings, but all are just wanderful.
