I just purchased a bow by A. Fracalossi for $1500.
The store told me he was a modern Brazilian maker. I am certain he is not P. Fracalossi with Arcos Brazil. I can post pictures if needed.
I'm not trying to get a monetary value, but just out some information on this maker.
No one XD
I haven't heard of this particular maker, but there are a handful of Brazilian companies turning out some pretty nice bows. I've had beautiful bows from Water Violet and L'Archet Brasil/United Strings. Can the place you bought it tell you anything?
They just said that he was a master Brazilian maker who probably left a big company.
Anyone have any idea?
justin, i have been trialing a bow by the same person, thru seman violins in the chicago area. according to the shop, p and a fracalossi are the same person. he said that the maker will use a different name ( first, middle, etc) based upon the quality of the bow they create. did you purchase the bow?
Yes, I purchased it! I really love it. The frog has a large oval eye and it is fully mounted in only MOP. The stick is very light (57 grams), highly flamed, and has a lovely bend/camber. Apparently it is the style of Tourte, I'm really enjoying it :P
thanks Justin. I'm comparing the a fracalossi to my current coda bow diamond sx. what i've noticed is that the fracalossi can pullout a darker and louder sound out of the violin. what is also interesting, is that it grabs the string much better than the coda bow. I thought this was a function of the newer horse hair, but other wooden bows i trialed didn't grab the string like that. I'll likely purchase it as well.
I forgot to ask, is a bow made by this maker superior branded A or P? Thanks :P
A......is the better branding, vs P, according the the shop, where I'm puchasing the bow. the price is the same as what you paid. the shop indicated that the do sell quick, and there was little room for price negotiation, given their margins. I beleive what he's saying with regards to price, as he has told me with other products if he has any room for price reductions.
...not to be confused with Arturo Fracassi, b. 1899, d. 1973, an Italian violin maker who also made bows !!
A lot of confusion arises from folk adopting names that are nearly like something else, e.g.Tonareli versus Tonarelli.
