Posted on November 5, 2009 at 02:49 PM Ah, yes. Comic performance on the violin has a history, going back perhaps to the likes of Paganini. It showed up in vaudeville, and Chautauqua, where Charles Ross Taggart had a comic violin act. Youtube gets us views of Wilbur Hall, who performed with Paul Whiteman and later Spike Jones, doing some of the classic bits, violin behind the neck and so on. Wilbur added some unique footwear, and displayed some versatility, depending upon how you feel about musical tire pumps. Like most of the best vaudeville material, Wilbur's is expert, professional, and well-practiced - these guys worked as hard at their job as a concert violinist.
