SF Bay Area Hand SurgeonsHealth: Seeking recommendations for hand surgeons in the bay area (south bay preferred)From Douglas Tomm I have been having a lot of pain in the 4th finger on my left hand. An x-ray revealed a tumor growing on the distal phalanx of that finger. Obviously I will have to have the tumor removed, but I prefer to consult a surgeon who has (successfully) treated musicians. Can anyone recommend a surgeon in the San Francisco bay area? I live in San Jose. Many thanks.

Posted on November 7, 2009 at 02:33 PM Do you suppose that some hand surgeons are hacks and don't care about fine function? Hand surgeons use their hands too and they probably understand that you want to use yours as well as they do theirs. From Mark Helm

Posted on November 8, 2009 at 06:13 PM I broke (shattered) the middle bone in my bow hand about 10 years ago and went to Dr. Hentz at Stanford. Here's a link to describing his team: http://stanfordhospital.org/clinicsmedServices/COE/orthopaedics/handUpperLimb/ourTeam.html I don't know if he's right surgeon for your case, but I healed up and haven't experience any problems since. I didn't experience any differences in my bow hand afterwards. I think it's important to also have a good physical therapist after your surgery, too. I don't remember the one I went to in Palo Alto, but you should poll around for recommendations. |
