Erich Kunzel dies at age 74News: He was conductor of the Cincinnati Pops, having conducted in that city for 44 years
Cincinnati Pops conductor Erich Kunzel died this morning at a hospital in Bar Harbor, Maine, after a five-month struggle with cancer.
Here is the story in the Cincinnati Enquirer Here is a memorial page created by the Cincinnati Pops He also was the conductor of the "From the Top at the Pops" recording we have been featuring this week on Violinist.com. "Erich Kunzel, RIP. Just heard the news. Very sorry to see him go," said "From the Top" host Christopher O'Riley in a Facebook post today. "Proud to have been a part of his last Telarc recording, along with some exceptionally talented kids who have no doubt been spoiled prematurely by working with a conductor of such grace, wit and generosity." I'd invite you to share any memories you have of Erich Kunzel.

Posted on September 1, 2009 at 07:02 PM I remember sitting in a rehearsal for the Sun Valley Summer Symphony's Youth Symphony when the director of the program announced that we would have a special guest conducting us that day. It really touched me that Mr. Kunzel would take the time, when he was appearing at with the symphony for the annual pops night, to work with the the motley crew that was our symphony. I don't think the symphony ever sounded as good as that rehearsal that Mr. Kunzel conducted us for. He was sorely missed this summer in Sun Valley, and now will be missed by the whole music world.
