Hi there,

Has anyone heard any news about James Ehnes' re-recording of the 24 caprices by Paganini.  This is the only site that I can find that has some information, but it doesn't say when it will be released - just that it is some time in the fall.

Thanks

I wonder why he's doing another recording of them. The first recording is awesome!

This will most likely be even more awesome as he's certainly matured as an artist...plus we get to hear these played by him on the Marsick Strad :-)

Yes - I'm also extremely looking forward to this rerecording.  He's only gotten better and better since the first one.

About the Marsick strad mentioned here....

In the documentary 'The Art of violin' it is said that the Marsick strad was not as great as other strads....isn't it? It was even suggested that Oistrakh made it sound that way, as it was despite of the violin the Oistrakh's sound, not thanks to it....

Ehnes is another magnificent performer, that would sound great even in a VSO....

Isn't the Marsick strad somehow overrated?, is the same violin as Oistrak's?

thanks in advance for any clarification.

The violin that James Ehnes plays on is a different violin nicknamed "Marsick" of 1715. I believe Oistrakh's son, Igor still has David's Strad.
