I'm not worried about Robots replacing human musicians, but that is a very impressive show.  What most excites me is the prospect of prosthetic arms and hands sophisticated enough to allow fine motor tasks like playing the violin and of course the other applications of robotics like the assisted bathing robots that already exist.

That thing seems to have an excellent Russian-school bow arm.

So it is russian.. I learned that first, and then the french way. It's natural now, better if I don't worry about the technique too much. But then I see that thing, and experiment with the elbow more than needed...... thanks.

Sorry, I just don't care for all of that robot's facial grimaces and weaving around the stage and the occasional tears. Too much emotion; it detracts from the music. I like the Heifetz approach - no unnecessary movements, no facial expression; he just plays. Why can't they build a robot that can do that? And, anyway, in the green room after its (his? her?) recital it refused to autograph my program, and it told me that instead I have to autograph its program. Hmpfff. Afterward I found out that they only way you can actually communicate with it anyway is through Faceplatebook.com.That's why I don't like the playing of these mechanical robots programmed to play the violin. I'm talking here about violinists like Zuckerrobot, Perlrobot, Elrobot, Huberrobot, and all the others. And, anyway, if you'll notice on that video, every time someone in the audience coughed, they got zapped with 10 volts. It's shocking that this can happen. Ah, well, maybe I'll just switch to another topic. I've got to find a way to insulate myself from all this controversy.

Csak elsüttem egy kis viccet, Krisztian. ;-)

Sander, one does have to wonder though, what will the future of the competition world be with this new innovation? Rather than training dozens of violinists to all sound alike, we could just literally mass-produce them? :P

Very stiff bow arm, no vibrato, rubbish string crossings, and hasn't even learnt to use the chin rest.

Also his expression is very off putting, he looks as bored as he sounds.

Must be a professional......:)

Walking is also getting better and better for me, it's almost natural now.. but then, this moby-doo, or what, and then I get to lose my confidence in my walking abilities :)

Apparently they are still ten years away from bringing out the viola version!

What about a Jew's Harp version? (pardon me, that's not politically correct - a "minority harp")

What's a jew's harp? All jews have one, or it's an instrument?

Gee, I looked it up, I used to have one when I was little. Maybe I'll look for it at my parent's attic. I can't play violin anyway, figured out that my bow is a crap. I just cannot play till I find a new one. I don't like it....

I actually realized it's a good bow..

Here's another one at the other end of the spectrum. You might want to mute your speakers.

This is what happens when engineers who don't play the violin decide to build a robot that plays violin.

I think that the problem with that version is actually a lack of resources, not a lack of knowledge about the violin.
