Louis Kaufman recorded a couple times for the Musical Masterpiece Society. His vivaldi records. the first complete 4 seasons ever recorded, are quite famous. But this record, made around 1952, were Kaufman plays the Havanaise by Saint-Saens, is a real charmer too... Maurits van der Berg, the conductor, is the son of the concertmaster of the Berlinder Philharmoniker 1920-1927, and is still active (!) as a conductor and concertmaster...

You can find the video, I made of the lp on:

I would very much like your opinion about this record.

Greetings from the Netherlands,
Rolf

So many years after your post... I just listened to the recording, quite by accident on youtube. It is a charming rendition. He was quite a great violinist.

Kaufman played the sound track in 500 movies. He must have promoted the violin as a beautiful instrument as much as any other player in history. A hero .

His recordings of Vivaldi had a significant influence on performance of these pieces.
