![]() jason anicksomerville, MassachusettsPersonal website: http://www.jasonanick.com jason joined Violinist.com on Nov 2, 2009 24 year old Jason Anick is a Boston based jazz violinist currently touring with the John Jorgenson Quintet. Well versed in a range of different styles (bebop/swing/gypsy jazz/rock/blues/bluegrass), Jason is available for studio work, local gigs, and private lessons. Jason began taking classical violin lessons at the age of 6, simultaneously picking up fiddle tunes around the house. He won his first fiddle contest at age 7. He met Stéphane Grappelli in 1996; a year later he found himself performing for President and Mrs. Clinton at the Martha's Vineyard Ag. Fair. As a senior in High School he won the IAJE Outstanding Musicianship Award and performed at the New Jersey Folk Festival. He went on to study acoustical engineering and jazz violin at the University of Hartford/Hartt School. In 2007 he won top honors for improvisation in the ASTA Alternative Styles competition and performed with the Robin Nolan Trio at the Montreal Jazz Festival. He was invited to join the John Jorgenson Quintet while still a senior. Jason also enjoys studio work and teaching, leading workshops at festivals and fiddle camps across the country. He was the recipient of the Djangofest Northwest Dudley Hill Memorial Award in 2008. Jason also regularly contributes columns on learning Gypsy Jazz in Fiddler Magazine.
