Born in 1991, Eric Thomas Gratz began violin studies at the age of 4, and by age 9 had already won several competitions. He made his European solo concert debut at the age of 14, giving performances of Bruch's Violin Concerto no. 1 in Spain and Portugal. Since then, he has given performances as soloist, chamber musician, and held leading positions in orchestras.

An avid chamber musician, Mr. Gratz has had the opportunity to work with members of some of the most respected chamber ensembles, including Cleveland, Cavani, Guarneri, and Juilliard String Quartets. In 2008, he was a gold medal winner in the St. Paul String Quartet Competition, and also made two appearances on NPR’s “From the Top” in Ohio and California. He is a regular participant in leading summer music festivals and programs in the United States and Canada, including the the Aspen Music Festival in Aspen, Colorado, and the National Arts Centre Young Artist Programme in Ottawa, Canada. He serves as the 1st violinist of the Rousseau Quartet.

As soloist, Mr. Gratz has performed with orchestras and in recitals around the country, including his Kennedy Center debut with acclaimed pianist Sejoon Park in July of 2008 as part of an eastern U.S. recital tour. In October of 2008, Mr. Gratz made his debut as soloist with The Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall.

A native Californian, Gratz resides in Cleveland, Ohio, where he recently received a Young Artist Diploma from the Cleveland Institute of Music. He currently studies at CIM as a student of William Preucil. Former notable teachers include Claudia Shiuh and Linda Cerone.
