Education and Teachers
Cora Venus Lunny was born in Dublin in 1982, where she began to play the violin at the age of three. Three years later, after hearing Cora Venus play in the National Concert Hall, Lord Menuhin invited her to study at his school in Surrey. At that time Cora Venus preferred to stay at home in Ireland, turning down other invitations to study internationally. In the following years she was awarded numerous scholarships and distinctions.

Her musical and violinistic education has consisted mainly of private studies with distinguished violinists around Europe, including Joji Hattori, Eugene Sarbu, Rimma Sushanskaya, Arkady Futer, A. Arenkov, and Vladimir Spivakov.

Competitions
Cora Venus has won all of the major violin and music competitions in Ireland, including the 1998 RTE Musician of the Future Competition, where she was the youngest ever finalist. She was a Laureate of the 2000 Sarasate Competition in Pamplona, Spain.

Performance
Miss Lunny has performed at all major Irish venues and music festivals, including - The National Concert Hall, Dublin; the RDS; Dublin Castle; the Two Cathedrals Festival, Derry; the Galway Arts Festival; the Boyle Arts Festival, Kilkenny Arts Week; the Guildhall, Derry; and the Point Theatre, Dublin

Outside Ireland
Cora Venus' tour schedule has taken her to the UK and continental Europe including Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Sweden where her performances roused the audiences to standing ovations.

TV & Radio
Having first appeared on live national television at the age of five, Ms Lunny has recorded many times for TV and radio in Ireland and the UK, including several times for the Late Late Show for RTE TV, the Gay Byrne Music Show, the Kelly Show, BBC Radio for Children in Need and CH4 TV. One of her most recent TV performances was broadcast on live radio from the NCH, Dublin, as part of the New Year's Eve Gala Concert.

Versatility
Cora Venus enjoys recognition as an artist in many fields: mainly as a soloist, also as a much sought-after chamber musician and interpreter of contemporary music.

Repertoire
Her expertise covers music from the early Baroque through the Classical, Romantic and Impressionist eras to music of the present day. The composers she feels the greatest affinity for are Shostakovich, Schnittke, Brahms, Ravel, Prokofiev, Beethoven and Bach.

This Season
The 2002/2003 season sees Cora performing Bruch's violin concerto with the Ulster Orchestra in Derry, and performances of Beethoven's Violin Concerto with the Dublin Baroque Players throughout Ireland. It also marks Cora Venus' USA debut; she will be playing Hyperviolin in Boston and NYC as part of MIT's Toy Symphony project.
