I entered a Carmelite monastery after graduate school and dropped the violin almost totally for nearly forty years in favor of organ and liturgical composition--the practical necessities of monastic life. I recently picked up the violin again and have been practicing an hour a day over the past few months. Much to my amazement, I am recovering some of the pieces I studied years ago with much the same technical ability I had then and with greater musical sensitivity.
Since I am working entirely on my own at this point, without teacher or fellow musicians to share with, I very much appreciate the practical suggestions in the discussion section of this site. At present I am lurking and listening, but I may eventually pose some questions of my own.
