Breaking News -- RIP Pavarotti

Luciano Pavarotti has gone to the great stage in the sky. He succumbed to pancreatic cancer this evening at the age of 71.

This was his last public performance.

So sad, what a great musician he was. I wish I could have seen him more. RIP Pavarotti.

I only saw him live once: at Covent Garden in the 80's, and he was just awesome!

I learned more about sound and tone production from listening to his 60s-80s recordings than ever I did from any teacher. In the paraphrased words of Neil Gaiman, "Be to [his] virtues very kind / Be to [his] faults a little blind."

RIP Maestro.

What an incredible sense of drama this man had. Even without watching his performances one could feel oneself being propelled to exactly the place he wanted...one could do nothing but let go and be carried away by his performances.
