 Outside looking inFebruary 23, 2006 at 6:28 AM Hi, everyone!I haven't posted here in quite a while... And that last post was, admittedly, probably a bit too personal to have encouraged any meaningful discussions. SIDENOTE: Being a freelance writer by profession, I've always been keen on the public nature of blogs; I'm constantly aware that whatever I write is open to public scrutiny. Here in violinist.com, I try to talk about personal experiences in a way that is intimate yet encourages discussion and feedback from fellow violinists. My girlfriend wrote me something that really touched me, and I'd like to share it with everyone. It's from the perspective of someone outside looking in, a response to a comment I once made about how shy I felt that I'm not as good a violinist as I want to be. I know that it may come across as mushy and saccharine (though not as cloying as email chain letters, LOL), but I felt it needed to be shared. I hope that these words give someone out there the sense of empowerment that they imparted on me. Posted Friday, February 10, 2006 The other night, I was so sleepy and tired, but I could hear you playing in the living room and I felt soooo comfy and at home. I've always loved how the violin sounds, but when you play it, I'm doubly happy. We both know you aren't the most amazing player in the world... not in their world, perhaps, but you're certainly the best in mine. That sounds patronizing, but I mean it. The best for me is what makes me happy, what lifts my spirits, and seeing you plodding away at something you really love does that. I don't expect you to be perfect. In fact, I enjoy watching you stumble---and that's not schadenfreude, hahaha! I enjoy witnessing your struggle and your efforts because I feel like I'm part of it, that you've shared this beautiful struggle with me. It's like I'm playing, too.
