Are you a journalism student? Do you want to be an intern at Violinist.com?

April 7, 2006 17:21

Violinist.com is seeking a summer intern.

Our perfect intern would be a journalism student who also studies the violin at a university known for excellence in both. But our only requirements are that you be a violin lover with an informed understanding of the instrument as well as someone who has had instruction or experience in basic news writing and reporting. We are not looking for a blogger or essayist. Please do not apply for this position if you do not have at least some journalism training or experience.

You will be responsible for setting up and producing several Q&As with interesting people in the violin world, as well as reporting and writing additions to our violin wikis. Pay is a flat fee -- $1,000 for the internship, and we would be happy to work with your school if it is willing to accept the internship for credit.

This is a part-time, telecommuting, contract position where you will be working directly with Laurie and Robert Niles. Laurie is the editor of Violinist.com, a symphony violinist who has trained with top instructors at Indiana and Northwestern and a former newspaper reporter with a Master's in journalism. Robert is a winner of the Online Journalism Award and a finalist for the Webby and Eppy awards, who has worked at as reporter, editor, columnist and Web producer for some of the nation's leading newspapers. So the gig's a good learning opportunity.

To apply, please e-mail jobs@violinist.com with a resume (plain text or OpenOffice formats preferred) and a letter of introduction which includes your ideas for what you'd like to do with this opportunity. The application deadline is April 21.

New look for Violinist.com

April 2, 2006 11:35

Laurie and I have a new look for Violinist.com, starting today. New colors, new "curves" on the flag and a new front page structure. We hope you like it.

On the front page, you'll now find the latest blog entries from Laurie and a new home for our Violin news & gossip columnist, Darcy Lewis. In the right column on the front page, you'll find the most recent "In Concert" audio file, links to recently added violin shop reviews, as well as links to our wikis, most recent discussions and reader blogs.

As always, we'll be chasing down little gremlins around the far corners of the site for a day or so. So please accept my apologies if you find something weird. But Laurie's much happier with this look, and I hope you will be, too.

Thanks for reading,
Robert
