The Rocking Fiddle ChallengeJune 29, 2010 at 12:58 AM Yesterday, I found out about the Rocking Fiddlers Challenge from Ben Chan's youtube channel. It has a top prize that's worth about $18,000 (yes, a fine violin!) plus 2 composite bows worth $700 for 2nd and 3rd prize winners and plenty of gift certificates from Shar (I'm not sure how they will distribute the rest of the prize). The contest is open to any students/amateurs only. I think it is open until sometime in fall 2010. The challenge is to play Sweet Child O Mine, transcribed by Adam DeGraff from the Dueling Fiddlers. If you sign up here http://tiny.cc/ia22e, you will get the free sheet music and tips on learning the piece. Adam will also send you the fingering and bowing for the piece regularly (because the original sheet music does not have any fingerings). Also if you post your video on their facebook page, he will actually comments on how to improve it (consider it a free lesson :) I'm amazed at how he takes the time to comment on everyone. Honestly I don't think I stand a chance against plenty of teens who's been playing for over 10 years (there are some really good ones), but it sure is fun to try :) From Laurie Niles
