1. Bach: Siciliano by Viktoria Mullova
Viktoria Mullova has refined her violin sound over the years and transformed herself into an amazing Baroque violinist. Her album comprises of Bach Concertos that present the new Mullova. Though she applies a vibrato touch in her work, she retains her incandescent tone. The Siciliano movement from the E (BWV 1053) concerto is particularly lovely. She presents a bittersweet song that has lovely expressions in her lower register. Ottavio Dantone leads the Accademia Bizantina strings to back her with tender sighs.
2. Histoire du Tango by Augustin Hadelich
This 29-year old Italian born violinist has one of the most amazing violin voices in the current generation. In this album, he pairs with Pablo Sainz Villegas, a guitarist, to bring out different emotions in the Manuel de Falla’s Canciones Populares Espanolas. The violin croons a quiet and sweet lullaby in Nana. In Polo, the violinist ignites such a passionate flame.
3. Feldman by Carolin Widman
This album does not have windswept passages that spotlight the violin. It also does not have the traditional tug-of-war between soloist and orchestra. It presents haunted, slow-moving, and quiet Morton Feldman’s sound world. It makes sound seem like it stands still magnificently. The music in this album unfolds in a 50 minutes canvas that comprise of color drips, dark rumblings, and floating textures.
4. Sinfonia Concertante in E Flat Major
This album comprises of violin pieces and movements that combine elegance, exceptional touch delicacy and swagger with semiquaver passagework in an imaginative and playful manner. It presents the vivid notes of Andrew Manze, the Mozart’s efforts, in a delightful and an unexpected way.
5. Beethoven violin concerto by Jascha Heifetz
This album reminds listeners of the golden age of the likes of Thomas Edison and original Victor 78s. It presents performances with a rare beauty work with transfigured loveliness. This album was arranged by Edward Huws Jones and it incorporates traditional fiddle tunes from Ireland, Scotland, and England.
9. Elgar: Violin Concerto
This album contains The Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughan William that was completed in 1914. The album has some of the most sentimental and gushing violin repertoire pieces.
10. Por Una Cabeza
This album presents traditional violin pieces by the likes of Nicola Benedetti, Alexander Sitkovesky, Ksenija Sidorova, and Alexei Grynyuk. It features a cut known as Por Una Cabeza, a tango song that became very popular after the release of this album making it very famous.
