The violin concerto of the German composeer hans Pfitzner (1869-1949) opus 34
After the concert with soloist Andrei Serban http://www.andrei-serban.nl/ we go with some people who were visitors of the concert of Serban with Tollens ensemble (see http://www.violinist.com/blog/jenohubay/201011/11831/ ) to a restaurant Hollandaise where he plays with a pianist during the meal on tuesday. Here a lot of (dark) impressions. Serban was stamping with his feet and yelling bye, bye, hoppa, barta to make even a more better atmosphere. In the 1th movie after 33 seconden people are clapping in their hands during the music. Part 3 is very beautiful. Part 4 a singer appears :
Last monday we made our 1th videoclip (with 5 of the 11 members, because it was during worktime) in the harbour of Dordrecht (near Rotterdam).
The Rumanian Andrei Serban http://www.andrei-serban.nl/ made arrangements for stringorchestra. After 4 rehearsals with him we gave a concert with our amateurorchestra Tollens Ensemble http://www.tollensensemble.nl/ After 4 rehearsals with him we gave a concert with our amateurorchestra Tollens Ensemble: He is difficult to follow, because in every bar the tempo changes. He made a suite of 10 gypsy and folk pieces of different area's in Rumania. We also play a 7/16 th bar. I thought that would be Turkish influence and that was true. After the discovery of Porumbescu Balada + Hejre Kati of Jeno Hubay (the name of my blog) some years ago I got the unreal chance to play these rare pieces once in my life.
Earlier I made the 2nd and 3rd Bruch + Schottisch Fanatsy with the score of the soloist (so you can compare them), but THE Bruch violin concerto is his 1st. During his life it irritated Bruch that is was overplayed and that the other vc's get so less attention. It is also my irritation, but I (and Bruch) cannot chance the world and must accept the popularity and playing tradition of the 1st vc. Good themes, not technical too difficult and only 12 pages, but now for me not a reason to hear it again in a concerthall because it is too well known. The piece you start to practise after the Rieding concerto's:
