It seems I am always the last to know when people pass on from this world. One of which was Erick Friedman. I never knew the man personally but knew of his playing mostly from the Heifetz sessions and masterclasses. I didn't hear of his death until 2006, 2 years after the fact.

Today I learned of Kent Coleman's passing, a notable violin teacher in the Seattle area. I only met the man once but I had heard his students and was in awe of what he was able to accomplish with them. He allowed me to copy his part for the Sibelius violin concerto and I was astounded at the level of detail involved in the piece. He was a truly gifted artist and a great inspiration and I am deeply saddened to find this information out, let alone the fact that it has been over a year since it happened.

It has certainly affected me more since I actually met him, we had dinner together, talked shop and I felt a bond with him that only comes from an intense passion for the violin and high level of musicality.

Today I truly am sad.
