(*) CHO Eun-Hwa: work for Violin and Orchestra (Grand Prize Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition for Composition 2008 - Sabam Prize)

 

Composition 2008 – laureate CHO Eun-Hwa
Korean composer CHO Eun-Hwa has won the Grand Prize of The Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium for Composition 2008 - SABAM prize. Her work for violin and orchestra, Agens, will be performed at the Centre for Fine Arts (Palais des Beaux-Arts) by the 12 finalists in the Violin Competition during the week of 25 to 30 May 2009.
December 2008, this composition has been selected from the 158 scores that were entered in the Composition Competition by an international jury, chaired by Arie Van Lysebeth. The jury consisted of Julian Anderson, Toshio Hosokawa, Michael Jarrell, Hanspeter Kyburz, Claude Ledoux, Tristan Murail and Frederik van Rossum.
The 3 finalists are Qian Shen-Ying [China], Valerio Sannicandro [Italy] en Ludovic Thirvaudey [France].

Congratulations to all finalists, in particular to Ray Chen, a lone Australian in the starting boxes, and the youngest finalist as well.

Interesting to see that someone is playing Elgar Concerto in the final - do wish that I could be there...are these being podcast by any chance?

 Great choice with the Elgar...frankly surprised there aren't more Shost, Bartok 2, Proko 2, or Sibelius...

 

Go Ray!  I remember his Tchaik from ENCORE - ridiculous.
