One of the most bizarre things I know of is the fact that Hobo Jim, who was my earliest and most powerful musical influence maybe, ends up living in your small town for the past 25 years. He would come to my home town every few years and I'd catch him playing on the corner downtown when I was maybe 12, or later at the student center at the local college in my teens. I even remember when I was around 16 somebody mentioning he went to Alaska. Unfortunately the recordings and videos of him I've been able to dig up are nothing like him at that time. Don't know what he's really like now, in person, though.

When I discovered that, I got in touch with an old friend who lives in Washington state now, and we tossed back and forth the idea of pilgrimaging up there to see him. I was surprised that he was as enthusiastic as me. Everyone should visit Alaska at least once. I got my motorcycle license last month. That would be a good motorcycle trip. Giddy up, pony!
