Hi Drew thanks for your extensive reply as usual!!! I have been thinking and working on this: (concerning double stopping thirds):
"Great! Also RH 3, keeping 1 down; RH 1, keeping 3 down; then together, as you mention, and varied rhythms (similarly with 4 & 2). RHing both at once is actually very advanced and the balance, angles and unison of RH action, with intonation must be totally mastered."
I have doing the following: holding down 4 ('a' on D string) while I RH the c-natural, 2nd finger on A string. (This is for C major thirds)
The question is this: When I RH with the 2nd finger, my index finger wants to naturally open backwards (like a cello player doing extensions ...ie 1st finger opens backwards to help the 4th finger to go forward, plus slight 'caving inwards' of hand\wrist) BUT: 1)Should I allow it to do this?? (since we are in c maj!!!) 2)DOES EVERYONE'S HAND tend to do this or is it exaggerated in me because of my weird hand shape(index finger is longer than middle finger!!!!!!!)
I have been practising RH-ing 1 and 2 together while holding down the 4th finger A, but feel some strain in the hand, I think because I then have to straighten my wrist to allow the first finger to contact the string.
Basically my hand does not seem to like the L2 group in the lower positions, (H3 is fine) and it gets more awkward when I have the higher number fingers on the lower strings, and 1 on the higher strings.
