I've been doing Wohlfahrt on viola too, and I also enjoy it. I did the etudes as a child on violin and I remember some of them. But back then my teacher picked and chose and I never did the entire book. Now, on viola, I'm just doing them in order from start to finish. I wrote a blog a few months ago called "something's wrong when Wohlfahrt is the highlight of your day"--but maybe not!

I've never heard anyone say they like Wohlfahrt, and I certainly don't. Can you explain to me its appeal?

You have quite a busy schedule as a mother. I can't imagine getting up at 4:30 and doing so much before you leave the house.

Pauline, I guess I would have to say that I like Wohlfahrt because it's such a challenge for me. I'm not an accomplished player...more intermediate...so these exercises stretch me a bit and I have to really work hard to get them right. I suppose an advanced player would get quite bored with them, some of them are quite tedius...but....I can really tell the difference in my playing...especially bow control...after plowing through a few pages. I'll pick one that I feel helps in a particular area and just keep working at it until I can do it well. I hope I can look at them as boring someday and wonder why I ever liked them so much...but for now, they challenge me. I'm an early riser...I love the peace and quiet of the house before everyone else starts getting up. I do however, head to bed by 9-9:30pm.
