That's great--taking a skating holiday!
I've always wanted to do that long distance skate on a river over there. Basically I live for ice and skating. It is my favorite thing in the whole world. I makes me feel completely free.
We have had great skating this past 2 weeks. 14 days ago the freeze started. it has been as low as -15c and rarely higher than -4c here the whole time. A few days have gone to +1 or +2c just during the day, and we had one rain at night which resurfaced the ponds.
I've been out every other day for 3 hours with the children, playing hockey, doing waltz jumps, speed skating and tricks. I skate on my 20 year old Daoust hockey skates. I've never had speedskates. I would like to try them someday though.
Do you skate traditional, or "clack" skates?

Yes I have clack skates for artificial ice, but I hired an other type of clack skates which were better for my ankles and better for nature-ice. On my artificial ice skates I reached 24 minutes for a round on the lake of 7 km, with my new skates 21 1/2 minutes for 7 km. In Holland I have skated 200 km in 16 1/2 hours when I was 21. Although the 200km tour on the lake was cancelled, I must be much faster next year: 184 km in 10 hours. But later more with foto's and longer stories.
