I must tell you, as a recent aficionado of Dr. Suess, that after reading your poem, I feel you must read the short story called, "What Was I Scared Of?" It features, as the story's main nemesis, a pair of pale green pants.

And I think you have inspired me to say a little something about my new favorite pair of shoes:

In my City of Angels,
Full of smartly dressed feet,
I wear my plastic Crocs
to walk along the street.

They are dark blue and squishy,
Made for people going fishing
or wading through mountain streams.

They make my feet
Look three sizes too big,
But to me they're a Colorado girl's dream.

Laurie, glad you noticed the Dr. Suess reference. That was why I bought them. Ooohh.

They are a scarce and local backwoods species, distinguished from their common K-Mart cousin by the tailored knees, split-calf clam-digging hem, and adjustable non-elastic waistline. They are, as the other owner also observed, nice and sturdy.

But are you terribly frightened of them? ;)

I'm frightened of tailored knees.

What are tailored knees? I'm not au courant with the fashion.

Oh, I was just waiting for someone to ask that. I was describing this little seam, perpendicular to the side seam, that creates a slight bend in the knee. This relieves the pressure of the fabric on the knees when you bend them. Some pants feel really good and you wonder why. Well, perhaps it's the tailored knees.

Jim, there is no need to fear the knees.

Thanks for the explanation, Emily. I couldn't bring myself to wear light green pants, even those with tailored knees, because they remind me of the old surgical scrubs.

These aren't scrub green. They're wasabi green.
