Frustrating milestone

February 8, 2006 at 2:30 PM

I'm not much of a blogger, so I doubt I will update this entry very often, but I felt like putting a few thoughts down in writing.

It's now been 6 months since I first held a violin in my hands, so I took some time to reflect on my progress. The anniversary struck me as somewhat anticlimactic, and in certain ways frustrating.

By objective measurements I suppose I am making very good progress, but I still seem far away from the modest goal I set for myself when I began taking lessons--namely, to reach the point where the sounds emanating from my violin add to, rather than subtract from, the total musical karma in the world. (a fingernail on a blackboard being a giant minus in that respect, and Szeryng's Chaconne being a giant plus).

I feel compelled to report that I continue to amass a significant account deficit in that department at an alarming rate, but promise to continue to strive ahead until my books are balanced. Many of the comments I read here are a great inspiration to keep forging ahead. Thanks to all at Vcom!
