university of houston and auditioning for the school of musicOctober 21, 2009 at 11:55 PM I need advice...I haven't gotten to audition for my Tech's school of music and I'm a sophomore. i also don't have lessons right now and i don't know if i will be able to pick them up again with the same person. i'm wanting to transfer to university of houston next fall or if i can manage this spring. the problem is that regardless of transferrable credits, i have not been allowed to take any music classes for my intended violin performance major yet and it looks like i won't be able to audition for any school of music until my senior year so that i can be prepared to get in. this means that i may be going to school for another 6 years until i get my bachelors degree and i want to avoid that. i know that at tech they don't offer many, or possibly any, music classes in summer school and i don't know how to lessen my time in undergraduate school. i also don't know what kind of choice i have in houston in the way of teachers or how much they will charge, but i'm guessing the same ~$50 or more an hour. i don't know how i will be able to afford anything like that...does anyone have any suggestions of any sort? i would appreciate them so much!!! thanks. Posted on October 22, 2009 at 3:43 AM I happen to live in Houston at the moment and am taking lessons from one of the Houston Symphony violists. Also, the principal violist in my community orchestra is on faculty at the University in the music department. If you need help finding a private teacher I may be able to help you get in contact with someone. It seems that the "going rate" for lessons is around 50-60 an hour. But I can ask around with the folks I know to see if there are other options. This entry has been archived and is no longer accepting comments. |
