Accordion.....

September 25, 2006 13:28

I got my accordion! I was over my cousins house for his Birthday this Weekend (Jahiem, he is 4 now.... but he is so small). And my grandma gave me my grandfather's old accordion (she said he bought it for $5000 "back in the day". That was the same accordion he performed at Carnigie Hall with.)

So even though the same make/model of accordions are cheaper today than they were back then, it has much more sentimental value rather than monetary, seeing that I never got to meet him.

So has proven to be a challenge so far. But if anyone knows how to play email me!... I have a few questions about it!

Front page.

September 21, 2006 16:23

I made the front page of the local newspaper! I was playing the sousaphone. I didn't even know about it until I walked into school on Monday and some teachers said "great picture in the paper yesterday, Richard." Well today I went into a music store with only 1 violin. A $150 saga. So the sales person comes over and did his speal on how great it was, it was top of the line, blah blah blah. So I tried it and it sounded like crap.... bridge mis-carved, soundpost out of wack, string windings grossely apart, and pegs that wouldnt stay in place. I was gravely dissapointed.

Beethoven Troubles....

September 14, 2006 15:00

Well in the Symphony (FLSO) we are playing Beethoven's Symphony no. 1. It is an awesome piece, but the problem is it is so hard. The conductor said to me on tuesday (with a heavy spanish accent) "sorry to pick on you Richard, but I need your bow more to the frog. It doesn't matter if you aren't playing the correct notes, as long as your bow is more twords the frog." Don't get why but whatever. But on other words, Today we started playing in band "avantava", and it is a great piece, and I had a solo today (the baritone wasn't there so it turned into a solo). And the director says to me (and the entire band, as I play it) "Gosh, I still can't get over it, 12 months ago you couldn't even play that thing [tuba]." That made me happy :). But unfortunetaly I have lessons this year with a baritone, but I don't mind kinda, but I have a major Nyssma solo (His Majesty the Tuba, level 5) to work on and I hope he devotes enough time for that solo. We'll just have to see on monday. :)

GRRR....

September 11, 2006 12:22

Well today I woke up to going to school (bad enough) but then I went to my locker and I found someone had tryed top over take it. Grr.. this school is messed up. So tomorrow I have to go in and talk to the principal (what fun that is, trust me he knows me very well lol) because the last 3 years (my first 3 years at this school) they had messed something up, 8th grade and 9th grade grossly messed up my schedule and this year they didn't mess up my schedule (which is good) but they gave away my locker. Sorry about the rant lol. But on lighter side the symphony starts tomorrow! And we also start playing in band!

School started :(

September 9, 2006 15:38

Well school started on the 6th :(. But good news is that I like all my classes. I am taking trig, Band, Global, French, English, Bio. I know I could be taking more, but I am waiting for next year for the theory and extra music classes. Well it has all started out good except for the having to wake up at 6:30 deal. But the Symphony starts this tuesday, which I am so excited for. We are playing: Carmen Suites no 1 and 2, Glinka's Russlan and Ludmilla Overture, and Beethoven's Symphony no 1. I have heard all the pieces except the Beethoven. For band we are playing a ton of pieces, but our main focus is that we are going to play at disney world in april and we have to prepare about 5 pieces soley for disney. Fun...

It's getting to be that time again.

September 4, 2006 22:03

Well it is almost fall, schools are starting and about to start (like mine on Wednesday) and everyone knows that it is Orchestra time again. I just recieved my schedule for the rehursals and the performances for the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra and most professional orchestras are about to start their normal 32-36 week concert series again. That means (for me) having to juggle school, the symphony, lessons, practicing with the other various other activities I participate in. And the wierdest thing is
"I couldn't be happier"

September 1, 2006 18:03

Well today I went school shopping like my parents told me we were going to do since school ended. lol, school starts on the 6th. I really don't want to go back, and school shopping just made me realize how close it is. Well I am just glad I have a study hall every day. Plus the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra performance schedule has been posted. But I am still waiting for the rehursal schedule. I hope I get to play first violin again.
