A new look to Keynotes?

August 26, 2006 22:19

I have recently done my usual check up on Keynotes and relized that there has been a new look to the site. Does anyone else update on Keynotes and have any opinions? Personally I wish they kept the site the way it was. Now it is very hard to find articles and personally I believe that it is unattractive. You either have to know the topic that you are looking for and the category of the topic or you have to look sort through every article to find the one you are interested in. The only thing I like about the site is that more articles are being added more frequently, and I can find tuba, violin and piano updates/help in the same website. I look forward to hearing your opinions!

I'm Back! :)

August 21, 2006 15:16

Well I am back from states. We got 3rd (out of 12 marching bands) which isn't too bad but obviously everyone wanted to get first. But it was a bunch of fun. But unfortunetally no pics of the violin yet :(. My camera needs batteries (and it takes those really expensive ones that you can never find. So I am going to go look for them tommorrow and I hope I can find them. But I can still tell you about it! :) It was repaired by Gregory Docenko, I found him off of v.com and he is in buffalo. You can barely see where it was broken, but you can see where one of the cracks where near the pegs. But the other ones are hidden. He also adjusted my sound post and now it doesn't sound so harsh (exspecially the A-string, the one that was very shrill). And I was very happy that it only came to $100 (plus shipping!) :)

Some strange use-less facts, all violin related :).

August 18, 2006 01:47

While searching the web I compiled a bunch of strange use-less yet amusing facts all violin related in someway :).

1. While playing the violin you burn 170 calories an hour!

2. The modern Violin contains over 70 separate pieces of wood.

3. The worlds smallest violin is only 37 millimetres long and is small enough to fit in a box of matches!I would love to try and play that :).

4. An old Italian term for the violin is "kit".

5. An actual news headline: "Drunk Gets Nine Months in Violin Case".

6. Handel was nearly killed in a sword fight at the age of 18.

7. In the movie Titanic, a man with a yellow shirt and a black moustache fell off the boat and drowned. Five minutes later the same exact man was seen playing the violin with two other men.

8. If a violinist is placed into an MRI machine, we can see that a much larger area of the brain - the right primary motor cortex - is devoted to his or her left fingers when compared with a non-violinist. Two or three times as large, in fact. Violinists also have more connections between the two sides of the brainwhich account for the better co-ordination they have between each hand compared with a non-violin player. Yay us!

9. Joseph Merlin of Huy, Belgium invented the roller skates. To introduce his invention he entered the ballroom-playing violin in 1759. Unfortunately he did not know how to stop and crashed into a full-length mirror, breaking his violin. This one is my favorite :)

10. The violin is the most popular instrument for children, it is also the most indemand instrument at the professional level.

I love this quote!

August 14, 2006 23:59

Find something you're passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it.
Julia Child
I recently came across this quote and Have now added it to my top 3 favorite quotes :). But it also serves as an example for a recent disscusstion with one of my friends (who I hope doesn't read this :) They said that they wanted to be a music major. Which I can respect seeing that I am planing on being a violin major. Yet, when spring break came around they didn't practice their instrument. Summer is now here, almost 9 weeks of school out and yet no practicing. I just don't get how anyone can not like to play their instrument but want to be a music major. Maybe Ill pass this quote on to them :).

Melting Rosin?

August 8, 2006 21:16

Lately, well actually about 6 months ago I bought new rosin as I normally do. Except this time I got a much higher quality and more expensive rosin than I normally do. My normal rosin costs about $2 but I spent $9.99 on this one. But I love the difference that it makes. But this one is in wooden blocks instead of a round in a cloth that I am used to, and there is that huge indent from rosining the bow. I have heard you can melt the rosin in the microwave to melt it into a block again. Is this true? how do you do it? Thanks for the help!
ALSO: This is a pic of me and my tuba! I will take one with my violin also when I get it back! I love my tuba and my violin! Ps.. you might want to right click on it and click "reload picture with full quality" Because it is all screwed up otherwise...

Hello again everyone.

August 6, 2006 21:10

Hello, It has been kinda slow around here with out a violin :(. I have nearly memorized my NYSSMA tuba solo, and I have gotten back into playing the piano. But now thinking about school comming means that Hochstien lessons will start soon enough. But I still haven't a solo that I have been wanting to perform. I have thought of so many and tried so many but none seem to work for me. I wanted to do Prelude from suite no. 1 for unacc. cello transposed for violin but it was a little difficult. Not too difficult but I was worried that I would mess up and there would be no piano to back me up/cover me. Any suggestions?

Ebay Violins?

August 5, 2006 21:41

I have never personally tried or heard an ebay violin but I was interested in having on as a spare. In case something like my recent tragity happened during the concert season. Does anyone have one? How does it sound. Is it an ok Begginner bow? I was thinking of buying one also because I am in need of a new case and buying that is the cheapest way to get a good case, and a bow and a spare instrument never hurts.

instrument insurance.

August 3, 2006 23:07

After the recent mishaps with my beloved violin, and relizing how much a repair can run me I have decided (once the repair is complete in about a week) to get some instrument insurance. But I have become some what perplexed about insurance. Does anyone have any suggestions on who to get it from/what I should look out for? Thanks,
-Richard

Canon in D by pachelbel.

August 2, 2006 22:54

I personally think that this is the best piece I have ever heard. And I think I found the best solo piano part too! it is at Canon in D Just scroll down. It is the harder version. I want it so much but I am not going to join just for that one piece. I have over looked the website and that is the only piece I like. I was wondering if anyone out there has a music scores membership and is willing to download it an email it to me? It would be a great help! MY VIOLIN IS GETTING FIXED I am shipping it out tomorrow and it should be back next week. The guy that is fixing it seems pretty cool, and he is an amazing violinist too. I can't wait to see the results!
