February 2005Feb. 16, 2005 at 10:06 PMWell, only two more weeks left before my big violin competition-winner gets to play with the Naples Philharmonic.I'm performing the Concerto No. 1 Concerto...trying to get it up to speed. That part after the "Maggiore" needs to go deadly wicked fast. Orchestra really picked up the pace this year...I have nine or so pieces-all of them rather difficult. Suddenly, I am finding myself practicing every moment of spare time. My mock recital is Feb. 28. Mr. Neal, my teacher, says that I sound "phenomanal" and I will definately be ready by then. Now, I just have to get an accompaniast. Along with it all, the second violinist in our clarinet quintet bailed out on us. We've asked EIGHT different people and ALL of them turned us down. We've only done one gig together...the Mozart Clarinet Quintet, first mov. for the Ave Idol competition. We came in second place and won fifty dollars. Ka-ching! I'm considering teaching violin next summer. I think I could probably get certified for Suzuki book 1...maybe book 2. But now, I must off to practice!
Feb. 19, 2005 at 6:41 PMGot my accompaniast.Step one complete. Now I just have to brush it all up. If I play well, I have a chance at winning. A chance is all I need. My mom dug out the "Phantom of the Opera" sheet musci the other day. I want to arrange it for quartet. Why oh why did Weber just HAVE to write the prettiest pieces in 5 flats? That's SO totally WRONG. And with my stunted fourth finger, its nearly impossible. Too bad. I'm gonna play it anyways.
