![]() Labeling- Why do we do it to eachother?December 4, 2008 at 6:13 PM Well, I was sitting pondering my thoughts today and a moment which took place last year came to mind... As all of you know, there is no one less kind than teenagers... But this event took place in one of my classes last year. Some kids were making fun of a girl and talking behind her back. Well, she heard them and after a while she stood up and let herself be heard. She said "Why do you have to call me those things? Why do I have to be labeled? Why emo, ugly, wierd? Why can't I be Christina?" The tone with which she said it gave me chills. That qoute will forever be in my mind as I think it is one of the most important. Such a simple statement can have such a profound, eye-opening aspect. As I'm typing this, my dog is sitting in front of the window looking out, as he does every morning.. I am not going to label him as any of the things he may be, I am going to think of him simply as Max. I look at it, and I know that the Human Race is a horrible thing. You don't see a pride of lions laughing at one of it's members after it gets injured during a hunt. You don't see that. You see the other animals surrounding it, protecting. Does this happen with people? No. For God's sake we have TV shows celebrating the opposite! TV shows where the opening credits are a video of a dad getting hit in the crotch with a baseball bat by his son. We as humans think pain and misfortune are funny and I think that's disgusting. Many of the video games on Christmas wish lists this year will be about theft, gun violence and rape. I just don't get why people do what they do.................. I think that's why when I was younger, I loved animals so much. I had friends who "stabbed me in the back" but I knew that my animals would never do that and they didn't judge. I think it's amazing how animals will accept love back into their hearts after being horribly abused by humans. They don't go on rampages, hurting and sometimes killing people.... I just don't get why people do the things they do what they do, but I view it as a way of them discovering who they are. It is extremely wrong to judge an entire race by the actions of one, or the majority of it's people. So I will never do so. I now have a new way of seeing things- I will forgive but I will never forget. From Anne-Marie Proulx
Posted on December 5, 2008 at 12:19 AM You are right!!!! I've just recieved a chain letter from a friend that we could sign. It was an email where we saw humans (I think Chinese) who were torturating dogs. (I have heard they did it to have tender meat!) Isn't that horrible. I wish those persons could experience the same thing just one time to know how it feels! The humankind is so selfish and sadic! When do people will choose a dirigeant that really protects environment and animals + give real penalties to those who are disrespectful to them. I had the same reflexion as you when I read a story when I was in highschool. This story was about an esquimo and his dog who were freezing somewhere in the north and were going to die because there was nothing to eat. The esquimo then had the idea to eat his dog and was thinking of how he could do it and was convinced that the dog was thinking the same thing of him... He found a knife and put it in his hand and saw that the dog was comming towards him. He thought that the dog wanted to attack him. The esquimo cried but still wanted to kill his dog. In fact, as the esquimo returned himself to kill the dog,the dog came and lick the face and tears of the esquimo all worry to see his master like this. At this moment the esquimo realize that killing a companion to survive was only a human thing and that amimals are faitful to their master even if they have nothing to eat so he didn't kill the dog and the two of them died together! It made me realize that humans were so mean to eachother and with the animals and nature too. Even in simple things amimals can outweigh us. We are suppose to be the most intelligent specie yet I don't understand why the society labels everyone and destroys everything. I once wrote in an essay that the humankind was the only specie that destroyed itself. With such ways of acting, fast food and pollution, we are killing ourselves! I hope it will change! Anne-Marie

Posted on December 5, 2008 at 5:38 AM Anne-Marie, I know what you mean... I could go on all day about how stupid it is but that wouldn't really lead to anything so I don't see a point... This entry has been archived and is no longer accepting comments. |
