I learned these new interpretations of "do-re-mi" while teaching elementary music this week.
teacher sings: "do-re-mi"
student response: "don't blame me?"

One of the pieces I had to finish bowing today was the Moldau. I have performed both violin as well as the viola part. So many arpeggios, so little melody, if you are not playing first violin. Tomorrow, though, we are playing Mozart and Copland. My husband has to go off to Hilton Head again and my concert is about an hour out of town. Babysitters are always an issue, especially as this is a college spring break week, but we did find one last minute.
For a diversion, I had jury duty last week. My group spent many hours in the jury assembly room, but never got to the courtroom, as all those cases were settled. My mom spent two days in the hospital with heart symptoms. She apparently had a mild heart attack, but is otherwise doing well for someone who is almost 81. Not so great is having my husband's quartet losing their residency due to the incredible shrinking Georgia budget. That means more freelancing in Georgia-which means alot of weekends away (some orchestras are doing ok, others not so well). Schools k-12 and colleges have been hit hard, so I am looking at less $ for next year. I am going to have to add some private students, though it's very hard to find any time in my schedule. My daughters made their violin debut, playing Hot Cross Buns for a school program. And as a late birthday present, I got a snow day on Monday (for less than an inch), as Georgians are terrified of snow.
