My From the Top Experience :)
April 9, 2011 at 9:17 PM
Over my spring break, I was invited to perform on From the Top, a NPR (National Public Radio) Program as well as a PBS Television program. From the Top features upcoming classical musicians from across the country who defy the stereotypes of musicians by being well-rounded individuals.
The radio taping took place March 30th at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa. On the morning of the 30th, I was able to visit North Cedar Elementary School. During this school visit, Andrew Altmaier (the cellist), Danielle Renzi (the accordionist), and I were able to perform for 2nd graders as well as 4th graders. This experience was very moving for me as I was able to see the kids swaying to the music we produced. Although cliche, it taught me that music is a universal language. It was very rewarding, feeling like we were an inspiration to the young students. On the 31st, the performers attended an Arts Leadership Orientation. At this orientation we were inspired to spread our love and passion for music to others in our communities. I was personally inspired to become a great ambassador for the arts in my community and will hopefully be sharing news about that soon!
On the show, I performed Pablo de Sarasate's Jota Navarra. This piece is very vibrant, virtuostic, and unique in its character. I feel that Pablo de Sarasate, a native of Spain, really stays true to his Spanish roots through this piece. From the romantic slides to the percussive pizzicatos, the piece never gets boring!
The show will be airing on WFMT (98.7FM) on April 17th at 7pm (in Chicago). The broadcast schedule can viewed here
Tune in to hear me play on this wonderful program! It is sure to be an exciting show where I will be sharing stories about tennis, romantic emotions, Korean pop music, marriage, McDonalds and much more! Hopefully, you will have a few good laughs listening to my interview as the audience did during the concert.

Awesome, Jennifer! I'm so glad you had a great time.
I am excited as well; next Saturday, April 16th, I will also be performing on a radio taping for From the Top to be broadcast in late May....and I'll be doing a sonata by Uccellini on baroque violin with Mr. O'Riley at the harpsichord. Should be fun!
You've kind of dwindled my nerves a bit, thank you!
Congratulations to both of you! I just listened to Jennifer's performance on the web tonight and I'll keep an eye out for Brian's.
I love listening to 'From the Top', I find it very motivating. Even though I'm a 40+ year old adult learner, listening to the kids helps encourage me in my study of violin.
