Almost chickened out.......glad I didn't

February 19, 2007 at 12:12 AM

Well, I played in church this am.....it was a last minute thing. I showed up with the violin and checked to see what hymns were being done....tried them out and wasn't impressed with my efforts...and was going to weenie out of it...haha...

But, the pianist showed up, dragged me into the sanctuary and we played a few things together as folks were drifting in (a much more relaxed atmosphere than during the service).

Anyway, I ended up doing the music and did just fine. I think that warm up helped alot...I was much less uptight and worried and besides, it's easier to play while the congregation is singing along. This time I got many compliments and surprised remarks...lol...feels oh so good !

I have 4 pieces to work on for a cantada that we're doing for Easter. That's going to be a bit more intense.....I have some solos..(eek)...

I'm hoping that playing more frequently on Sundays, will help me get over the fear factor for this thing. Wouldn't do to freeze up during such a nice event....when everyone is working so hard to make it special......

"Gads" I hope I don't choke !!

Playing in church is great! I played at Christmas for the first time in years and years and I'm going to play again next month. I suppose it depends on the church and the music director, but I think in general it's a very supportive audience.

I would think, though, that anything "last minute" about the experience would make it more nerve-wracking than not. Treat it like a recital, and I'm sure you'll do wonderfully!

Thanks Karen...they are a very supportive audience and are always asking when I'm going to play next.
Funny how that doesn't seem to help the nerves....haha But I imagine it's just a matter of gaining confidence and just going up there to have a good time. Which, I really did enjoy myself yesturday and just had fun with it.....I actually look forward to the next opportunity. (a good sign !)
The music director also happens to be my teacher...hehe

That's a great opportunity for you! Playing at church is amazing! I hope I'll get to do the same someday. How's your KB? : )

I always take hope in the idea that maybe at least one person will gain something positive from hearing my music, even if I do poorly. I'm glad you played. Good for you!

Playing in church is good because you're almost guaranteed of getting a good audience response. I recommend it highly.

I find that practicing voo-doo is a good way to relieve tension. In a short while, you should be feeling needle-like pain your knees and toes.
