Lesson Arrangement & hidden meaning of prunes?

October 16, 2009 at 11:50 PM

Hi,

this is my first blog here. . .thought I'd write about my current lesson situation.

Starting this year I have been taking 3 lessons a month with a group class every week. I was wary of this arrangement at first but it was the only option at that time. . . I thought a lesson every week was important for the growth of the student. However, we are doing things such as ear training and in depth music theory in the groups that were not part of the private lessons.

For all knowlegdable folks and or teachers, what do you think of this arrangement? Is it something you would do with a student,  and would you recommend an aspiring professional (me) to continue with this? Will it slow down my progression? I haven't noticed a falling back in my playing. So far I have been able to practice 3+ hours daily on the off weeks, but I am missing the inspiration/ extra boost a lesson gives me.

Also I am quite curious about the meaning of prunes since they seem to come up quite a bit in discussions and such.

Thanks!

Hannah
